Abbey Gelmi is a television presenter and event emcee for both sport and fashion. Granddaughter of the greatest middle distance runner of all time, Olympic Gold Medallist Herb Elliott, sport is in Abbey’s blood, and following this family passion lead her to become the breakfast newsreader of Fox Sports News, where she covers breaking sports news nationally from the 24 hour news desk.

Quick thinking and highly trained, Abbey relishes in live television and the challenges that come with breaking news while letting her bright personality shine.

Abbey’s distinctive voice is frequently used by Fox Sports’ creative department for advertising and promotions, and she is also the voice of the Fox League channel.

A key part of the National Basketball League commentary team, Abbey was the only presenter to be included in the broadcast of all three NBL17 Finals Series’ games.

She has a genuine rapport with some of Australian basketball’s biggest names such as Joe Ingles, Patty Mills and Andrew Gaze.

She also hosted the NBL MVP red carpet where her love for fashion and sport made her the perfect fit.

Abbey has further shown her versatility by working across various sports and industries for a wide array of audiences.

She recently worked with one of the most recognisable figures in world sport, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, at private event for business executives.

Abbey is a regular MC and ambassador for the Australian Turf Club, speaking in front of crowds of over 40,000 and hosting events for brands such as Moët & Chandon, TAB and Longines.

On more than one occasion, Abbey has hosted Fashion on the Field with Vogue Australia editor Edwina McCann and formed part of the judging panel of three for competition.

With genuine ties to the racing industry, Abbey relishes in the chance to be involved on the track and Hosted the Autumn Carnival Media Launch with some of Australia’s biggest influencers in both sport and fashion.

Scouted by a modelling agency in her home town of Perth at the age of 17, Abbey was represented by Chadwick Models up until last year and made the national finals of Miss Universe Australia in 2012.

Growing up in WA, Abbey received an academic scholarship to study a Bachelor of Media and Information majoring in Journalism and Public Relations at Curtin University, where she is on the honour role for performing in the top 1% of students across all faculties.

She went on to study a post graduate diploma of Broadcast at Edith Cowan where she won a scholarship with Fox Sports prompting her move east to Sydney.

Her studies provided her with a solid foundation for her professional media career as a host and on air presenter.

Having worked nationally as a presenter, host, reporter, MC and writer, Abbey not only brings a wealth of experience and knowledge but an infectious enthusiasm to all that she does.
