Paul Wade OAM

Paul Wade was born in Cheshire, England, and moved to Australia with his parents at age 11. By 1984, he had attained Australian citizenship and represented his adopted country for the first time, playing for Australia’s ‘B’ side against Tasmania. He was the captain of the Socceroos from 1990-96 and represented Australia 118 times.

About Paul Wade OAM

One of his most famous moments in international football was during qualifying for the 1994 World Cup when he was given the task of marking star Diego Maradona when Australia faced Argentina.

His popularity with the Socceroos aided an easy transition into the media where he has worked the Seven Network, SBS, Sky News and Fox Sports as both a sports presented and an expert commentator in football.

He was awarded an OAM in 1995 for service to youth and the community through the anti-smoking and drug offensive campaigns, and to soccer.

Wade has epilepsy and often makes appearances at functions dedicated to promoting awareness of the condition. Living with epilepsy makes him the perfect fit with those dealing with such disorders. He relives the trauma of life before & after brain surgery.

Presentation fit

Corporate: Paul works with the Melbourne Business School where his presentation is aimed at both emerging leaders and general managers with the defence force.

Education: Works with high school Careers Advisors to inspire young people to take ownership of their lives and make good choices. The presentation fits programs run for the ‘Disengaged’ or ‘At Risk’ students.

Social/Unsocial: Presentations and Juvenile Justice Centres on the ownership of their lives and make good choices. He stresses, he is allowed leave the centre after the presentations.

Sporting Clubs: His talk is broaded than just soccer and works for entities as diverse as golf, rugby union and, of course, Australian Football clubs.
